Adcom GFA-5800 amplifier restoration recap service kit fix repair capacitor
The scarcity of good, honest techs who can do good and reasonably priced restoration/rebuild of audio equipment inspired me to create this restoration kit. In today’s day and age, it is difficult to find a knowledgeable technician who can service your audio gear properly. I have seen many poor quality restorations of equipment that cost way too much for their owners. In 99% of the cases, only a few parts were replaced, instead of a full and proper restoration job.A proper restoration must replace all electrolytic capacitors on all boards. Do not fall for partial kits that restore just one PCB (power supply, power amp, etc.). This is not a good or proper way to restore your audio equipment. It is the same as with car tires; one should never replace just one tire and keep the other worn-out tires on. A proper rebuild requires a full recap of all PCBs.On the other hand, if one succeeds in finding a good tech, the wait time is usually 6-12 months for the unit to be serviced, and costs are sky-high. I have been servicing audio equipment for many years and have developed deep respect for all good equipment. Knowing how amazing and warm these units can sound, I decided to put together this kit. 4 New Adcom GFA-555 Main Filter Capacitors 18000 uf 100v 2.5″ Perfect Fit!
Up for sale here is this set of 4 brand new Nippon Chemi-Con 18000 uf 100v capacitors. These are drop-in replacements for the main filter caps in the Adcom GFA-555 and GFA-555 II amplifier. These are the same capacitors I use when I am rebuilding vintage gear. These measure 63.5mm (2.5″) in diameter and 80.6mm (3.175″) tall, and use screw terminals. The screws are included. The original Adcom capacitors were 15000 uf 100v, so these are a little higher in capacitance, but they will work great with no issues, and will slightly improve the sound. These are authentic Made in USA capacitors. The current batch of capacitors I am selling has 30C32L codes on them, and the boxes are dated 2340, so these were made the 40th week of 2023. A note about installation: Main filter capacitors are usually used to provide the positive and negative rails to the amplifier section, so one of them will appear to be wired backwards (with positive to chassis ground). This is normal. Before you replace your capacitors, take some clear pictures of the wiring so you will know how to connect the new ones. If your equipment starts blowing fuses after replacing the main filter capacitors, you probably wired one backwards. US shipping and handling is $12, and international is $50.
